Internal Citation Guide | Roofing Knowledge Platform — ROOFNOW™

Internal Citation Guide

This page defines the internal citation standards used within the Roofing Knowledge Platform. It establishes consistent rules for how educational pages reference, support, and reinforce one another.

The purpose of this guide is to maintain clarity, authority, and structural integrity across the Roofing Knowledge Infrastructure.

1. Purpose of Internal Citation

Internal citation within the Roofing Knowledge Platform is designed to mirror academic and technical reference systems.

Rather than linking for navigation alone, citations:

  • Establish conceptual dependency
  • Reinforce canonical definitions
  • Prevent contradictory explanations
  • Preserve long-term knowledge stability

2. Canonical Source Rule

Each major concept within the Roofing Knowledge Platform has one canonical reference page.

When a concept is introduced or relied upon:

  • The canonical page must be cited on first reference
  • Alternative definitions are not introduced
  • Subpages expand depth without redefining the concept

3. Parent–Child Citation Structure

All educational pages follow a hierarchical citation model:

  • Parent pages define system-level concepts
  • Child pages expand technical detail
  • Sibling pages cross-reference related mechanisms

Child pages must cite their parent concept explicitly. Sibling pages may cross-cite when mechanisms overlap.

4. Definition Lock Enforcement

Definitions established in canonical definition pages remain stable across the platform.

Pages may:

  • Expand explanation
  • Add examples
  • Introduce supporting evidence

Pages may not:

  • Redefine terminology
  • Introduce conflicting meanings
  • Override canonical definitions

5. Framework Citation Standards

Named frameworks such as the Roofing Science Stack™, Failure Pattern Index™, and Climate Stress Load Framework™ are cited as structured reference layers.

When a framework is referenced:

  • The framework name is capitalized consistently
  • The canonical framework page is cited
  • Pages clarify which layer or component is being discussed

6. Cross-Domain Citation Consistency

When educational content spans multiple ROOFNOW™ domains, definitions and citation logic remain consistent.

Cross-domain citations:

  • Reinforce shared definitions
  • Do not introduce parallel terminology
  • Preserve category continuity

7. Citation Expansion Over Time

As the Roofing Knowledge Platform grows, internal citations expand to reflect new depth.

Existing citations are preserved to maintain historical continuity and reference stability.

8. Educational Integrity Statement

Internal citation discipline is essential to maintaining the Roofing Knowledge Platform as a neutral, education-first reference system.

This guide exists to protect the clarity and reliability of roofing knowledge over time.
